An Australian mother has given birth to what's believed to be the biggest baby in her home state of Victoria.
Stunning local doctors, Willow was born naturally and weighed in at 6.6 kg. I did the math (Google did the math) and that's a whopping 14.5505 pounds.
Many mother's across the world have weighed in and hailed this mother a hero.
Melis and Ben from Boronia in Victoria, are the proud new Mum and Dad.
Melis admits that she had a feeling that Willow might be on the bigger side. Her first child, also a baby girl weighed in at 5.6kg when she was born.
The first reaction to her newborn's size: “Oh no!” Melis tells 7News Melbourne.
Dad, Ben chimed in, “I can’t believe we’ve got the heaviest baby in Victoria at the time.”
Grandma Amey tells the camera: “She’s huge. She’s absolutely huge.”
Apparently big babies run in their family. Mum says that Willow might even be able to share diapers with her big sister - they currently take the same size!
Congrats to the Amey’s on Willow’s safe arrival and most likely taking home the Biggest Baby Crown.
One commenter wrote: "Oh Lord! My twins didn't even weigh this together and were born at 36 weeks, and we're considered big for twins".
Another said, "I had a hard time delivering my boy at 1.8kgs".
While baby Willow is certainly healthy, I wondered about the record for the biggest baby in the world. Turning to the Guinness World Records official site for the details.
Giantess Anna Bates (née Swan) who was 7 ft 11 in herself, gave birth to a boy weighing 9.98 kg (22 lb) and measuring 71.12 centimetres (28 in) in her home in Seville, Ohio, USA, on 19 January 1879. He was 30 inches long; his chest measured 16 inches and his head 19 inches around, and each foot was 5½ inches long.
Sadly, although two doctors were in attendance, the baby died 11 hours later and is referred to as 'Babe' in records. It was reported that when Anna's water broke, she lost six gallons of fluid. Babe's father, Martin van Buren Bates who was 7 ft 9 in, wrote that "He looked at birth like an ordinary child of six months".
“The tallest couple on the globe” had two children. On 19 May 1872, in London, Anna Swan Bates had a daughter, who died at birth, said to have been 27 inches long and to have weighed about 18 pounds.
To this day Anna and Martin hold the record for the tallest married couple ever, with a combined height of 477.52 cm (15 ft 8 in).
