The Biggest Loser is a reality tv show that took the world by storm. Starting back in 2004 the show has followed people classified as obese or overweight on a weight loss journey where they compete for a cash prize.
Sam Rouen was a 19-year-old teenager when he took part in the Australian season of The Biggest Loser back in 2008. Sam weighed a hefty 340 lbs when he competed on and felt like his dream of being active and healthy was way beyond his grasp. He was miserable.

With some serious determination and a lot of hard work, in 12 weeks, Sam was able to transform his life while on the show.
He went on to WIN his season of The Biggest Loser Australia, after losing a staggering 157 pounds. That's literally the size of another human.
Here he is at the start of the show when he was being teased by classmates for studying sports science at his university.
Now, more than 12 years after winning the Biggest Loser, Sam has maintained his healthy lifestyle and, as he puts it "I proved to myself that I could do what I put my mind to. I still face demons and challenges, but this day empowered me to realize my worth and self-empowerment".
Sam Rouen is in excellent physical condition and currently works as a firefighter in NSW, Australia.
“Highest highs and lowest lows,” wrote Sam of the past decade. “All I know is I’ve got some amazing people in my corner and I’m unconditionally appreciative of that.”
Did I mention that Sam also poses for the Australian Firefighters calendar?
Sam’s story is pretty inspirational and shows what can be done with some hard work and dedication to healthy living.
