On January 14, 2021, it was announced that Diamond had been diagnosed with small-cell lung carcinoma, and was undergoing chemotherapy in Florida.
Dustin Diamond was an actor, director, stand-up comedian, best known for his role as Samuel "Screech" Powers on the Saved by the Bell franchise.
Diamond has led a somewhat tumultuous life as an adult, filing for bankruptcy in 2001 and appealing to the public to buy t-shirts that read "I paid $15.00 to save Screeech's house" (spelling "Screech" with an extra E for copyright reasons) in order to raise $250,000 and avoid foreclosure on his house. In 2006, he released his sex tape, Screeched: Saved by the Smell, which he also directed. In 2014, Diamond made headlines again following an altercation at a bar in Wisconsin that found him with a switchblade and another man stabbed. He was then convicted of two misdemeanors, carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct, and served time in prison.
On January 12, 2020, news broke that Diamond had been hospitalized in Florida after being riddled with pain all over his body and a general sense of unease. TMZ was told he was taken to the hospital, where docs are running a number of tests to figure out what exactly is wrong with him. The likely prognosis seems to be cancer. Sadly, it appears to have been too late, a rep for Dustin told TMZ that he died the morning of February 1, 2021. His condition had greatly declined since last week, and he was taken off of breathing machines in an attempt to get him to hospice care. His partner was by his side when he passed away.
Dustin wore many hats and including as the groom in 98 Degrees' music video for their 1999 hit track, "I Do (Cherish You)." He also appeared in 2 episodes of "The Wonder Years." He was also a musician and formed an alternative metal band called Salty The Pocketknife. Diamond played bass and wrote much of the music as well.
