Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are making a dramatic move.
It's no secret that the couple have not been happy with the way they have been treated in the last year but I don't think anyone expected this move.
“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wrote on Instagram.
“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.
“We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.”
They then signed their statement, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with a photo from the announcement of their engagement in November 2017.
Sources have told TMZ that the move to North America is actually Canada, which is a British Commonwealth nation.
Harry and Meghan also just spent their first holiday season as a family of three with son Archie on Vancouver Island. The palace confirmed that the family were “spending private family time in Canada” ahead of Christmas.
Friends of the couple in Canada and the US are supportive of the move, which they say comes after the couple have been sidelined by the monarchy.
A pal revealed to The Sun that: “It is true that Harry and Meghan will spend a fair amount of time in Canada over the next couple of months and possibly going forward too. It’s been a very tough year — they’re newlyweds and they have a young baby — so they’re looking at what their life looks like in the future.”
Perhaps Harry recognizes that Meghan is struggling in the way his mother did and he’s going to do everything in his power to prevent that.
Canada is special to both Harry and Meghan who lived in Toronto for seven years while she starred on Suits. The couple conducted much of their early courtship in Toronto back in 2016 when they stayed at Meghan’s apartment and with their friends Ben and Jessica Mulroney. They have many friends in Canada and are said to be keen to spend more time in the Commonwealth country.
