This gorgeous cat was not adopted because of his eye color, until his new owner saw him!
The Scottish Fold is a breed of cat that many people covet. They have a natural gene mutation that makes the cartilage in their ears fold down. People fall in love with what is often described as an owl like appearance.
The original Scottish Fold was a white barn cat named Susie, who was found at a farm in, you guessed it, Scotland. Her ears had the unusual fold and when she had kittens, two of them had her ears. Neighbor to Susie's owners was William Ross, he was also a farmer and a bit of a cat fancier so he rgistered the breed. With help of geneticist Pat Turner, their breeding program produced 76 kittens in the first three years. 42 of them had the folded ears and thus the breed was born.
Now I would like to introduce you to Joseph. Not only is he a stunning Scottish Fold, but he has heterochromia. That means this beautiful creature has two differen colored eyes.
Joseph was lovingly adopted by Evgenii Petrov, 29, who lives in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Strangely, the breeder was having a hard time finding someone who would adopt him BECAUSE OF HIS EYES. When Petrov first saw a photo of Joseph, he couldn't believe he was looking a real cat. He had all but given up hope of ever finding the perfect cat, but when he saw Joseph, it was love at first site.
Speaking with Mail Online, Petrov said that "When I saw his photo I didn't believe he was real and I also didn't believe he hadn't been sold for five months. I called and I was happy when I heard that the photo was real, and a day later Joseph was at home".
Odd eyes, or heterochromia iridium, like Joseph has is a condition most commonly seen among white-colored felines but may appear in all other cats who carry the white spotting gene too. The only health concern that having heterochromia seems to come with is a that they have a higher incidence of genetic deafness.
Acording to Petrov, the cat still has sharp sight, he just looks different.
In any case, Joseph is becoming an internet sensation as feline fans flock to his adorable images online.
I can see why they love him. He is fabulous.
