Happy birthday little Archie!
What a tumultuous first year you have had. It seems like a lifetime ago that we saw your father, Prince Harry joyfully announce your arrival. The look on your father's face as he told the media that Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was here rivaled that of even the proudest of fathers.
By deciding to call their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, Harry and Meghan chose not to use a royal title for their son. "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanted their son to be as normal as possible to begin with, hence no use of the title Earl of Dumbarton," royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said at the time.
The young family has had a rocky year, as Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in what was dubbed "Megxit".
In a particularly moving moment, Meghan tearfully discussed the emotional toll that the intense media attention took on her as a new wife, royal, and mother. Meghan also told reporter Tom Bradby that she was surprised by the harsh, and often false, reports that came out about her.
"The biggest thing that I know is that I never thought that this would be easy, but I thought it would be fair," Meghan said in the documentary.
In October the family decided they would take a break from their duties and headed to Canada for Christmas. The stay made headlines as it was only the second time Harry had missed family Christmas at the Queen's Sandringham Estate.
Not long after that, the split became official and although they plan to continue "to fully support Her Majesty The Queen," they will not be receiving money from the country's "sovereign grant" and can pursue outside professional opportunities.
They moved to Canada, where they were said to be splitting their time between there and the UK. Late March it was revealed that a source told People magazine and the Sun that the couple moved from Canada to L.A., where Meghan was born and where her mother Doria Ragland lives.
The couple have tried their best to stay out of the spotlight, Meghan has done voiceover work on a Disney+ documentary and Harry has lauched a new mental health innitiative for current and former servicemembers.
We haven't seen a picture of Archie since New Year's Eve.
Today, to celebrate Archie Harrison's first birthday on May 6, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shared a new photo.
In it we see Meghan reading Archie one of his favorite books, “Duck! Rabbit!”. Prince Harry is said to be the cameraman of the video. They are supporting two charities Save the Children and No Kid Hungry . The video was published on the Save with Stories Instagram, which was launched by Jennifer Garner and Amy Adams.
