David Blaine is known as an extreme performer and illusionist.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Blaine has performed for the likes of Former Presidents such as Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama in the Oval Office along with celebrities such as Stephen Hawking, Michael Jackson, and Muhammad Ali.
On April 5, 1999, in his first public endurance feat, David Blaine was buried underground in a plexiglass coffin underneath a 3-ton water-filled tank for seven days and nights, surviving on nothing but liquids. “Buried Alive,” was Blaine’s first live stunt and was a feat even Houdini was unable to do in his lifetime.
David was just twenty-three when Street Magic first aired on ABC, transforming televised magic by turning the camera on the audience.
Blaine announced August 12, 2020, that he would attempt his first live stunt in almost a decade. It's going to be called 'Ascension'. "Let's turn worry into wonder and take magic to new heights," he writes on Twitter.
The stunt is going to shown as a live special on Youtube. In it, Blaine plans to float through the air similar to the Pixar "Up" film, with nothing but helium balloons to carry him. Where will they take him? Blaine will cross the Hudson River from New Jersey to New York City held up by a cluster of balloons.
The description of the event reads as follows: "Watch in disbelief as David Blaine magically ascends above Earth, in his biggest live performance yet: David Blaine Ascension. Manifesting one of his most vivid childhood dreams, David reminds us all to rise above."
Ascension will be broadcast live on YouTube where Blaine will "redefine magic once again for an unprecedented live event at a time when the world could use a positive distraction. He will bring wonder, hope, and untethered possibility as he tackles his most ambitious and revolutionary feat yet".
