Update From Collin Gosselin 'Doing Better' After Dad Freed Him From Institution

Collin was placed in a special needs school, where he sent his father a letter begging for help.

Collin Thomas Gosselin is one of the famous sextuplets made famous in the reality TV show Jon & Kate Plus 8. The long-running show featured mom Kate and then-husband Jon Gosselin as they raised their atypical family of sextuplets and twins.

Following a messy divorce in June 2009, Kate was granted the ownership of the family home and primary custody of the children. Their relationship has remained contentious over the years. In June of 2016, it was announced that Kate had enrolled Collin, who was 12 at the time, in a school for children with special needs. In an interview with PEOPLE , Kate said: "Collin has special needs, [there’s] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn certain strategies to help him deal with things. This has been a struggle we’ve had for a very long time, and it’s one I’ve dealt with on my own. I’ve felt very alone in this. By the same token, it’s not something that has only impacted me or him – our entire family has been impacted.”

In October 2018, 2 years after Collin was admitted to the Fairmont Behavioral Health Institute, Jon Gosselin filed legal papers to gain custody of his son. Jon already had full custody of his daughter, Hannah, at this time. It was alleged by Jon that Kate Gosselin mentally tortured their son Collin and also abused their daughter, Hannah, in a bombshell interview with DailyMailTV. Collin sent a letter to his father begging him for help. The letter read: "Dear Dad, I'm not trying to trick you, but I still love you, I told mom I want to live with you, she said no. But Right? She can't choose for me, I'm old enough now, I'm YOUR son, not hers. She was abusive to me after I left your house, I'm sorry, take this to court." Jon claimed that Kate didn't like Collin being 'difficult' and 'stubborn' and sent him away into care despite him having no known diagnosed medical condition other than common ADHD. A judge agreed that it would be in Collin's best interest to live with his father. In December 2018, Collin was released from the inpatient center and returned home with Jon for good.

Jon revealed on the First Class Fatherhood podcast that Kate had had 'no contact' with Collin since he moved in with his dad.

"Right now, it’s very tumultuous pretty much because there’s no contact between Collin and his other siblings," said Jon. "There’s contact between Hannah and the other siblings, but not with Collin."

Collin, who has a private Instagram, has not commented publicly about his mother. However, he posted disturbing allegations about his father which he has since deleted.

On September 6, 2020, Collin let fans know he was doing better. He posted a selfie that shows off a new haircut. He captioned the image on his private Instagram page : "Got a new cut and I’m doing better than ever. Life is too great to not enjoy! #livelikeitsyourlastday".

Glad to see that Collin is doing better!
