The coronavirus has played a major role in disrupting just about everything in 2020 and the entertainment industry is no different. COVID-19 has impacted film roll-outs or forced teams to halt their current film and TV productions.
One movie which has been impacted by the pandemic is called 'As I Was Told'. It's the film that Casey Anthony revealed she was making, based on her life.
You may wonder whatever happened to the woman that so many of us were glued to the screens watching. The case about the missing two-year-old girl from Florida captivated the world when it happened. Let me fill you in.
A Refresher On The Case
Two-year-old Caylee Anthony from Orlando, Florida vanished in June 2008, and the hunt to find her quickly became national news. However, strange details kept emerging that made no sense. To start with, Caylee had been missing for more than a month before her grandmother, Cindy Anthony, called the police to report her disappearance. Then Casey Anthony didn't act in a manner that fit the mold of a grieving parent. During the month of Caylee's disappearance, Casey Anthony partied at nightclubs, got a tattoo, and used a friend's stolen checkbook to go on a shopping spree.
When Caylee's remains were found in a wooded area less than a mile from Anthony's home, and Anthony was charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, people were not surprised. What was surprising was the verdict. Many expected that Casey Anthony would be found guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and manslaughter. I expected that she would face the death penalty. However, that would not be the case, as Anthony was found not-guilty after 10 hours of deliberation by the jury.
Details About Casey Anthony's Movie 'As I Was Told'
Following her trial, Casey Anthony has tried to lead a quiet life, away from the limelight. She is now 34-years-old and lives in South Florida with a private investigator who worked on the case. That was until she revealed that she was making a racy movie about her life. Anthony spoke with DailyMail about the film.
She said: "I could care less what people think of me. I just feel my truth needs to be out of me. I need to close the book."
"As long as I get my side out so I can rest. I have spent years hearing other sides of what they believe to be true." Anthony also alleges that her daughter may have drowned by accident, making sure to say that she had no part in her death and does not know for certain who hid Caylee's body in the woodland where she was found.
She said of the movie: "It will make it clear that I had no part in Caylee's death as far as how she died. There will be sex scenes. My character with different men, mainly sexual. It will show partying drinking days leading up to my pregnancy. It is all confusing, then the day I conceive..moving forward with that."
“She’s very calculated,” a source close to Anthony disclosed last year when the movie was announced. “She wants to tell her side of the story. That’s her big plan: to finally, 11 years later, tell what happened. And she’s going to tell everything.”
Though not meant to be a blockbuster film, many people were outraged that Anthony would make any kind of money through a film.
"I will have nothing to do with this movie or a book. She is a cold-blooded killer of her previous baby and she knows it. She is a lying murderer. The jury was fooled by her but anyone with a heart and brains knows she did it," says Debbie J.
Thankfully, in September 2020, it was revealed by a source revealed that the film will not come to fruition.
The source, who was close to the production told PEOPLE that "a multitude of factors -- including COVID-19 -- derailed the process."
"It just hasn't really gotten off the ground," says the source. "And then the Coronavirus became a thing and stopped any momentum that the film had. It's effectively dead."
