Bollywood Legend Irrfan Khan Has Passed Away At Age 53

He was known internationally for his roles in "Life Of Pi" and "Slumdog Millionaire"

Irrfan Khan was an Indian actor who first made a name for himself in Hindi cinema.

He later became known internationally for his roles in "Life Of Pi" and "Slumdog Millionaire".

In March of 2018, the actor revealed that he had been diagnosed with a rare neuroendocrine tumor, an abnormal growth in specialized cells.

Khan was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday, April 28 after suffering a kidney infection. Following a period of deteriorating health, he died Wednesday in the early hours of April 29.

A spokesman for the star has released a statement to the Independent .

“It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him.

“After having been struck by lightning in 2018 with the news of a rare cancer, he took life soon after as it came and he fought the many battles that came with it. Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heaven abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own.
“We all pray and hope that he is at peace. And to resonate and part with his words he had said, ‘As if I was tasting life for the first time, the magical side of it.’”

Sadly, Khan's mother, Saeeda Begum died the Saturday before him on April 25, 2020. She was 85 and Khan was able to attend her funeral via video link.

Throughout his carrer, Khan was able to break out of Bollywood starring in blockbusters such as Life of Pi, Slumdog Millionaire, The Amazing Spider-Man, Jurassic World, and Inferno.

Spanning over 30 years, Khan's career earned him numerous accolades, including a National Film Award, an Asian Film Award, and four Filmfare Awards. In 2011, he was awarded the Padma Shri which is India's fourth highest civilian honour.

Khan is remembered by his wife, two children, and fans across the world, many of which were prominent figures.
