Bindi Irwin revealed today that she has married her fiance Chandler Powell.
The small ceremony took place without any guests in order to keep friends and family safe from the spread of the coronavirus.
The 21-year-old daughter of the infamous Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, announced the news on Instagram showing a picture of her kissing her new husband while wearing an elegant wedding gown. She writes:
"March 25th 2020 ❤️ We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend. There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now. We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding. This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe. We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos. Right now we’re encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history. Today we celebrated life and revelled in every beautiful moment we shared together in our Australia Zoo gardens."
She continues to share that her Mum helped her to get ready and her brother Robert walked her down the aisle.
As Chandler became her husband, together they lit a candle in her father's memory.
"We shared tears and smiles and love. Thankfully, since we all live at Australia Zoo as a family, we could be there for each other. To everyone reading this - stay safe, social distance and remember LOVE WINS!"
Her brother commented sweetly on her post:
"It was a truly incredible day and one of the most special moments of my life walking you down the aisle and watching you start your married life together. I love you both!"
He then shared on his own Instagram:
"25/03/2020. This is a day that we will never forget. Bindi and Chandler, words cannot describe how happy and proud I am that today you started your married life and celebrated love during a difficult time for our world. And I was beyond honoured to get to walk Bindi down the aisle today. Even though all of your wedding plans had to change at the last minute to keep everyone safe and healthy, it truly was an emotional and beautifully spontaneous day... I know that Dad was with us, and we are all so delighted for your future as husband and wife. I love you both."
Bindi replied: "Love you so much, Robert. Thank you for being there to walk me down the aisle. You mean the world to me."
Her new husband Chandler shared the same image on Instagram along with these touching and romantic words:
"We’re finally married! ❤️ Today, March 25, 2020, marks the most amazing day of my life. I married my best friend. After almost a year of planning, we changed everything so that we could enjoy a safe and small private ceremony at our home, Australia Zoo. As we embark on this new life chapter I hope that we can share some love in the world, especially during this challenging time."
Her mother has sent this out in Twitter:
It looks as though Bindi's wedding dress was a nod to her mother. They definitely had similarities.
I believe her father is smiling down on her today. Congratulations to the new couple!
