The little baby who's battle captured hearts around the world for her courageous battle with cancer has gained her angel wings.
Rachel Hodgson is a registered nurse from Ottawa, Canada.
Nothing prepared her and her husband Rob for the news that their daughter Tessa had been diagnosed with ATRT: Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor. This is a rare, aggressive cancerous tumor of the brain and spinal cord. Tessa began her cancer journey with intensive chemotherapy beginning on November 26, 2019, in Ottawa at CHEO, before traveling to the Sick Kids hospital in Toronto for another round of chemo, as well as a stem cell transplant.
Her family turned to social media for support during this difficult time and the internet responded.
Sadly, the family later learned that Tessa’s blood was tested to see whether or not the gene mutation which caused her cancer is in her blood. Sadly, it was. This meant that there was a chance that new tumors could continue to grow. And not just in her brain. They could also grow in her kidneys. In August 2020 the family reported on their GoFundMe that Tessa was now 1-years-old and had been through 3 months of intensive chemo this past spring, and had been doing fairly well, but that had changed. A lump had been found under Tessa's arm and testing revealed that it was cancerous. Doctors wanted to remove the lump but weren't sure if it was possible. Neither chemo nor radiation were feasible options.
Sadly on November 21, 2020, the worst happened.
Just 22 hours earlier, her mother and father tied the knot in an emotional ceremony at the Roger Neilson House in Ottawa. They wanted the whole family to be together for the ceremony, and Tessa held on.
May Tessa forever remain in the millions of hearts she has touched and know that her life measured in love was longer than anyone else's. 💖🙏 Praying for her family.
